  2008
January   Natasha’s Cousin’s were here until the 11th. In the mean time she has had one of her Teeth repaired and will get the next one done next week. It’s school holidays at the moment and Natasha is spending heaps of time with her friends and is hardly ever home. She even went away for a week with one of them

  February

Natasha is back at school and says she has all the same people in her class as last year. They are the “independent workers” class so everybody calls them the brainy ones.

We were supposed to see Dr Yan on the 7th but our car broke down on the way so we never made it. But we have a new appointment booked for next Thursday. We had Bloods done on the 1st so we are hoping they are all ok. She seems fine so I’m not really worried at the moment.

  March

Last month's hospital visit went well Natasha’s bloods are all good so Jackie said if she remains fine when her next appointment comes up we can delay it and see her in six months instead of three months.

Natasha has had to get braces for her teeth as the front ones are all squashed together and are overlapping. Luckily it’s just her top teeth and hopefully the braces will be off early next year.

Natasha’s little sister Alyssa turned 1 on the 18th wow how time flies I’ll be back at work soon, I’m not looking forward to that but the money will be nice

April   I have returned to work after over a year off on Maternity Leave so life has suddenly got even busier trying to fit in all the activities as both Natasha and Alex will be playing Netball again this year and their practices and games are on different days. So Tuesday is Natasha’s practise, Wednesday is her game day, Thursday is Alex’s practice and Saturday is her game day

May   All is going well and we have decided that we will wait another few months before we go back to see the Jackie at the Hospital. Natasha hates missing out on school as she doesn’t like to get behind because her teacher makes them catch up on anything they miss. So we will rebook our appointment for August

  June
  July

Well we have been doing the rounds of the high school open nights trying to decide where we will be sending Natasha next year. It’s so hard as they all have their good points and when you speak to parents of children already attending they all seem really happy with their choice of school. Most probably it’s the students themselves, so I’m not really that concerned about Natasha as she’s a good kid so hopefully whichever school she ends up at will be fine.

On the 18th I took the big girls over to Mt Wellington to try out the indoor climbing centre with their Auntie Tania and cousin Ashley, they had a fantastic day out there and loved climbing all the different themed walls

August   We have had another good month. Natasha had her latest appointment on the 14th and all is still going well.  We are all really pleased with her huge effort in the school cross country as she came 15th out of 80 girls. This is so amazing as two years ago she didn’t even compete as she wouldn’t have been able to even walk that distance

  September

Yay Natasha’s netball team won their grade level competition!!!!! Well done girls!!!.

Well we have decided on Massey High for next year as it has so many options and we have had recommendations from other teachers that we know who work at other schools. There are a few other girls from her class this year going there and some of her old friends from primary but I’m sure Natasha will make lots of new friends as well.

  October

We have had a sad end to this month Natasha’s much loved Uncle (and Godfather) Greg passed away from cancer at age 37.

Natasha’s next appointment is due on the 13th of November and even though Jackie has said we can put it off again if all is well, I have a niggling feeling so I will get a blood test done and we will keep this appointment. Fingers crossed I’m just being paranoid because I always worry when Natasha’s meds change

November 13th   Well it seems my mother’s instinct is pretty well developed. Natasha’s CK level is back up to around 300 so her disease is active again. I’m not sure what made me think something was wrong maybe she mentioned having sore legs a few times and I have thought her hands were a bit redder than usual but mostly she has been pretty normal. Typical Tasha though, when Jackie asked how she was, she said “I’m fine” then as soon as we got out to the car park she said she knew she wasn’t right and thought her bloods would be bad this time GRRRRR. Jackie had her do another blood test today and we are waiting to hear what we should do from here

November 16th   The KWA (Kids with Arthritis) Christmas party was held at Rainbows End this year and it was great fun. Natasha took her friend Chelsea along and the girls including Alex had a fantastic day. Little Alyssa even got to do a few of the little kids rides in Candy Land.

November 18th   I have just spoken to Jackie and the blood test done last Thursday came back at normal levels again.  We will hold off on doing anything at the moment. We were going to up her methotrexate back to 15mg but will continue on with 12.5mg and see how it all goes. Our next appointment should be around Christmas as Jackie said 6 weeks on the form so I will see how she is doing then and decide if I want her to have another blood test then.
